ABOUT THE PROJECT
The UN Women supported project “From Opportunities to Capacities:
A Multi-Sectoral Approach to Enhancing Gender Responsive Governance” has been initiated
in December 2016 and anchored in the Centre for Gender Studies and Development (CGSD).
This main aim of the project is to create a body of evidence (literature, documentation,
evidence based research, policy papers) related to gender responsive governance.
Such a project would create an enabling environment to streamline gender in different
tiers of governance, especially the Gram Panchayat. It is the next step after capacity
building of elected women representatives which was undertaken in an earlier phase
through collaboration between UN Women, MOPR and NIRDPR. Along with the project
at NIRDPR, UN Women has also entered into collaboration with SIRDs across six states:
Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha where
capacities of gender responsive governance are being enhanced and models of gender
friendly Panchayats implemented on a pilot basis. NIRDPR, as an apex institution
for rural development is the knowledge leader in the process. Its role is to train
the trainers and create key knowledge products that would enable the consolidation
and scaling up of gender responsive governance across the country.
