Academic Blocks
SK Dey Block
This is one of the main Academic blocks housing faculty members. The block comprises
35 rooms at ground floor, 25 rooms at first floor and 31 rooms in second floor allotted
for centres of the Institute. The office of the Director General and meeting hall
is at the second floor of this block.
Dr BR Ambedkar Block
This block houses the Library (2 floors), 4 faculty rooms in Ground floor and 8
in first floor allotted for centres of the Institute. It also has 4 Conference halls.
Further, two computer labs for staff/participants and one for PG students are available
in second floor of this block.
Mahatma Gandhi Block
This block has rooms in Ground floor (17) and second floor (24) allotted for centres
of the Institute. There are 3 Conference halls in this block. A computer lab is
available exclusively for Centre for Geo-informatic Applications of the Institute.
Administrative block
This block houses the Administrative and Accounts officers and staff. There are
8 rooms at ground floor, 9 rooms at first floor and 8 rooms at second floor including
the Office of the Deputy Director General and a meeting hall. The office of the
Registrar & Director (Admn.), who is head of Administration of the Institute is
located at the first floor of this block. This block also houses the Office of the
Financial Advisor of the Institute.
A new second administrative block behind the SK Dey block houses the officers and
staff of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushal Yojana (DDU GKY). It also has a mini
meeting hall in ground floor of the block.
Auditorium
NIRD&PR has an auditorium with 350 seats capacity and two adjacent rooms for huge
gathering of staff / VVIPs for inauguration of important Training Programmes/National
workshops etc.
Community Hall
There is a Community Hall with two rooms for facilitating the staff and family members'
gathering and functions of marriages, birthday parties etc.
Library
Success of rural development programmes, among other things, depends on access to
information which is one of the critical inputs in the process of rural development.
Provision of timely and relevant information to different stakeholders is of prime
importance for effective implementation of development programmes and achieving
desired results. Centre for Development Documentation and Communication (CDC) at
NIRD&PR with a view to providing information support to the research and training
activities of the Institute and also to other members of development community,
has been engaging itself in identifying and collecting rural development literature
and systematically documenting the same for effective and wider dissemination. A
rich collection of books, journals and CDs/VCDs on rural development and allied
aspects gathered over the years is the strength of the NIRD&PR and constitutes the
information resource base for disseminating the information. The Institute brings
out various publications and offers information services in its endeavour to effectively
disseminate rural development information to the stakeholders.
Information Sources
Books
Books, reports and other institutional publications form major source of information.
During the period under review, Institute added a total of 461 books and other documents
to its collection.
Periodicals
The Institute subscribed to 142 Indian and foreign journals during the period under
review. 45 journals are received on exchange and complimentary basis and about 60
newsletters are received from different rural development institutions. CDC also
subscribed to on-line databases viz., Indiastat.com, JSTOR and ProQuest-Social Science
Journals and ebrary Social Science Collection (e-Books).
CD Rom/Video Cassettes
Audio-visual materials form a major input in the training programmes organised by
the institute. A total of 33 CDs/DVDs were added to the collection during the period
under review.
Hindi Section
The institute maintains a separate collection of Hindi books for the benefit of
participants and staff. Based on necessity and demand there is regular addition
of books in this section.
Updation of Databases
Computerised databases of books and journal articles updated and maintained on a
continuous basis form the major strength of NIRD&PR. Based on these databases, the
institute provides various information services. Presently the books database consists
of 93240 books and 125188 references in journal articles database.
CDC Information Products/Services
CDC Alerts, CDC Index and Newspaper clippings are the information products through
which CDC disseminates information. All these publications were brought out regularly
during the period under review. In addition, CDC provides services like literature
searches, photocopying, inter-library loan, etc., to its users.
Institutional Membership
NIRD&PR Institutional Membership offered to rural development organizations and
institutions is maintained by CDC. The members are entitled to free subscription
to Journal of Rural Development, NIRD&PR Newsletter and all un-priced publications
and 50% discount on all priced publications of NIRD&PR.

Conference Halls
There are 12 Conference Halls in NIRD&PR with capacities ranging from 15 to 100
persons, for conducting training sessions/workshops /seminars by centres to the
various stakeholders like State Government functionaries, Officials from State Institutes
of Rural Development, NGOs etc, involved in the implementation of various Government
schemes.
Guest Houses
There are four guest houses in NIRD&PR. 1. Himachal (61 rooms ); 2. Vindhyachal
(45 rooms) 3.Nilgiri (54 rooms) and 4. Aravalli block (59 rooms). The guest houses
provide accommodation for national and international participants of the training
programmes as well as participants of national workshops/seminars etc, that are
conducted all round the year.
Computer Centre
NIRD&PR has an excellent state-of-the-art Computer Centre with latest technological
facilities for dedicated connectivity of internet and intranet, recognised as a
Centre of Excellence by the DoPT.
The NIRD&PR network provides online services for the effective academic, administration
functions, e-office, e-journals, NIRD&PR e-JRD, IPKN and has links to vast resource
links of top ministries and departments, state and districts and SIRDs/ETC , Institutes,
Research Organisations etc, with 1000-odd hosts in its network range.
NIRD&PR gets uninterrupted internet services through its National Knowledge Network
connectivity of 100 mbps and with a redundancy of 22 mbps dedicated link availed
from M/s Railtel Corporation of India. NIRD&PR's network is technology-intensive
providing mail.gov.in domain by NIC, e-office, and caters all the services to the
International and National Participants in campus.
Wi-Fi facilities are available across office Buildings and Guest Houses. There are
two well equipped Computer Labs for Training, evaluation, hand holding, etc, for
the International and National participants, field functionaries, Ministry Officials,
students etc. These labs meet the current requirements of the office, catering to
training and research activities of the Institute and are at par with industry and
meet the emerging needs of the Institute.
Health Centre
NIRD&PR has a Health Centre on campus that caters to the medical requirements of its officers and staff. It has its rolls, one Lady Medical Officer (Senior Medical Officer i/c), male medical officer, dresser, pharmacist, staff nurse, Physiotherapist and attendants. The medical centre provides timely first aid and emergency as well as regular medical care to the staff and their families of NIRD&PR and also participants attending the training programmes.
Sports Complex
NIRD&PR has an indoor Sports Complex constructed in 1999. The sports centre is equipped
with a Gymnasium on the first floor, a Table tennis and Shuttle badminton halls
on the ground floor and a Swimming pool with washrooms for the benefit of participants
of the training programmes and PG students. Staff of the Institute and their family
members are also permitted to use this facility based on their membership. There
are special coaches who provide training to participants/staff for the Gymnasium
and Swimming activities.
