Centre's Mandate
- Evolving and disseminating tools and techniques in participatory micro level planning
for sustainable development;
- Conceiving, designing and organising training programmes with a focus on participatory
approach to Rural Development functionaries as well as NGOs, banking sector, academicians
and others for improving quality of life of rural poor and conducting research studies;
- Organising exposure visits to places of successful cases across India; and

Documentation of successful planning processes in the form of case studies in different
parts of India.
Objectives
- To organise training programmes and conduct research studies including action research
at the grassroots level with a focus on participatory approach to improve the economic
condition of rural BPL households and other disadvantaged groups on a sustainable
basis.
- To facilitate formulation of policies, strategies and projects by providing inputs/feedback
based on research studies.
Thrust area & scope
The CPME focuses mainly on the use of tools and techniques of micro planning, monitoring
and evaluation including developing of indicators, the LFA for project formulation
and management, M&E design, PRA and its tool, impact evaluation, and stakeholders’
analysis. Largely, CPME guides on planning, monitoring and evaluation of rural development
projects.
